Tricks and Tips in saving data plan on your iPhone – Part I

Due to the huge changed in AT&T subscriber plan beginning June 7, 2010  here is a trick and tip in saving data on your monthly plan. Here are a few simple steps you can do by yourself.

First, you need to turn on your Wi-Fi feature under Settings->Wi-Fi. By enabling your Wi-Fi you are opening your iPhone to connect to available Wi-Fi network signals, including your home Wi-Fi router that you use with your laptop.

When you turn-on your Wi-Fi feature as shown below, your iPhone will detect  all available Wi-Fi network/router on your surroundings. You can select a network/router that you can connect however if there is padlock icon you need to know the password.

I selected NETGEAR 1 because this is my home Wi-Fi router and I know the password. After selecting your router in this spot then every time you are in the network coverage of this router your iPhone will automatically connect to this network. If you surf the web you are now routed to your Wi-Fi network thus saving data without passing to AT&T network.

Now if you are in your office and have a Wi-Fi router you will do the same steps above so your iPhone will automatically connect in your office Wi-Fi.

Doing the same steps over and over will keep your iPhone connected to a Wi-Fi network whenever you are around the area such as your favorite Starbucks coffee shop, Denny’s, Burger King, Hospitals, Schools, Hotels, etc.

Download this iPhone Apps FREE Wi-Fi Locator from iTunes. This help you identify all Wi-Fi- spots around your area or by ZIP code which are providing FREE Wi-Fi connection.

Happy iPhone!
